Welcome to Endless Tracks!

I was in advertising and media in Melbourne, Australia, then gave up all the serious stuff to drift around the world. Apart from two marriages and two kids, I have managed to achieve virtually nothing. I’ve done over forty different kinds of work from bookkeeping to factory hand to videographer. I managed some rock bands in London but their egos were gigantic and the talent tiny.At one time I owned three houses then found myself possessing zilch. Yet I have never been happier. Obviously there is something seriously wrong with me but it isn’t painful. I’m grateful for having happy genes and my kids aren’t drug addicts. They even love me.

About forty years ago I wrote a short autobiography which was very tongue in cheek and was only done as it was required work in the writing class I was doing at the time. About twenty years later I completed a screenwriting course and eventually produced a movie script. It never created any interest from film directors.A comment or question was posted on my blog recently. It made me laugh but I really couldn’t answer it. “Who is John Wilson?” Do I have to be someone of interest? Can one word some up a life? He was an actor, a clerk, a footballer, a drunk? Who or What is John Wilson? Well, sorry, I can’t tell you because I don’t know. So who is John A Wilson? No idea but the only reason I use the A is because there are five thousand other John Wilsons in our capital cities.I‘ve never found what I was looking for. I had no idea what I was looking for! What is there? Take a pick! Wealth? Security? Love? Fame? Experiences? Lots of experts on life wanted to coach me. Invariably they would say “Life is serious, you’d better settle down”. Is it really? Where is the evidence?

These stories, articles and anecdotes were written between 1984 and 2023. Most of them are fictitious but a lot are about friends, places and adventures. I hope the humour shines through.Finding a title for this book proved frustrating yet eventually “Endless Tracks” stood out. “Tracks of my Tears” was a personal favourite and “Endless Summer” (the ‘60s surf movie”) kick-started me into travel and trouble. I started writing short stories in an attempt to understand what it is all about and, of course, I still have no idea! But I love this quotation “It’s the friends you can call at four am who really matter”

If you don’t enjoy this book please don’t tell me but perhaps pass it on to someone who might need a laugh or three. That’s all I hope for! Thank you.
