The Two Headed Coin

The world that goes on constantly, inside my head, is not for everyone to see but it is exhilarating, frightening and gentle and so beautiful. And I need it to be  all those things and more.

The world that goes on outside my head and I see it every day is ugly, breathtaking in its crassness, rewarding and funny in the stupidity of it all. A local street sign says it well: “Support Mental Health or I’ll kill you.”

I can’t escape from either world but getting the balance correct between them

is one of the keys to happiness. Not that I spend my days, I hasten to add,

searching for happiness. I found the goldmine of happiness years ago because I wasn’t desperately looking for it. It was in the backyard of our house.

Some coins:

I love dogs! They have no self-pity.

Children, more than anything, save you from yourself.

Being unwanted is the worst disease.

Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness hasn’t danced in the rain. The worst in men is common place. The best in men is a far rarer thing. A friend will help you move house. A good friend will help you move a body. The old formula for success. Dress British, think Yiddish, eat Italian and drink Irish.

A man whose three year old son had died, wrote this three line poem.

Dragonfly catcher,

Where today

Have you gone?

Now we know everything and talk to no-one.

Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self. All you are seeking is seeking you.

Open your eyes. You are surrounded by beauty.
