TWO SISTERS

I met two sisters Megan and Trudi at a big party in London in the late 60’s. They were new to travel and loved life in London.

A few weeks later, and a few drinks later I asked Megan to join me in my Kombi van for a trip to France, Spain, Portugal and Morocco. There was no room for Trudi as well!

I had been living in the UK for 4 years at this point and had visited Morocco 3 times previously. I loved the country particularly the south where few Europeans ever visit due to the remoteness, the mountains and the deserts.

Megan was a little anxious about leaving Trudi but she had found a good job in London as well as a new boyfriend.

They were happy to see us driving away but first of all we had to agree on the reunion location. In the end agreement came easily as Trudi had travel plans of her own.

We all agreed to meet Lakeside in Geneva. It is an easy to find location due to the scenery, the mountains and water jets. It is a world wide photo location.

We all had agreed that whatever happens we will be waiting there on the sandstone steps to the lake. Nothing will stop us being lakeside in Geneva on our agreed date.

A few days later we left Trudi behind with a litre of tears. See you in Geneva in 3 weeks!

Megan had a fabulous trip with the highlight being a pit stop where Megan was frightened with the stars and the silence… she honestly felt that the stars had collapsed close to Earth. Amazing what a lack of pollution will do! The night sky is about to fall, she couldn’t believe her eyes!

Our travelling was over except Megan started getting very emotional as we approached the Geneva Lake. No sign of Trudi but lots of tourists around.

“What are we going to do?” We’ll never find her in all this crowd. We have to do something! Well I did do something , I saw Trudi sitting on the steps almost at the same time Trudi saw us. A bucket of tears as we traded our stories.

It was wonderful to see the love between the two sisters. A few years later Megan had married a stockbroker in Sydney. I met him there once, we had marathon running in common. I was running in the top 20 at this time and I was trying for a PB. I didn’t see her as she stepped onto the road to photograph me. It was the last time I ever saw Megan. I still miss her.
